1. ETHOS
At Yumi, we are dedicated to offering a sustainable and holistic approach to skincare and sleep, where each piece is thoughtfully designed to support both your daily beauty routine, sleep and overall well-being. We are progressive in our thinking and creating and are doing the best with what we have and know now. That is what we expect with everyone we work with.

2. RESPONSIBILITY
At Yumi, we hold an unwavering commitment to ethical and sustainable practices. Our fabrications are made entirely from biodegradable or recycled materials, produced by our skilful manufacturers in China, with whom we engage daily. We are working towards zero waste in our manufacturing process, refining all design elements to be recycled and biodegradable. We continue to learn and evolve, finding better practices and more efficient ways of doing this as we grow. Thank you for joining us as we learn to make a positive impact for a more sustainable future.

3. FABRICATION
Our collections are designed with natural and sustainable fibres including GOTS and OEKO-Tex-certified mulberry silk and organic cotton. These fabrics are 100% biodegradable or recycled.
ORGANIC MULBERRY SILK
Our silk is 100% certified organic by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), free from harmful chemicals and 100% certified by OEKO-TEX Standard 100. Our organic silk is ethically sourced from mulberry trees grown without pesticides or harmful chemicals, adhering to strict Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certification. Organic silk farming promotes biodiversity, conserves water, and reduces soil degradation by avoiding synthetic fertilisers. Unlike conventional silks, organic silk is produced in a way that supports sustainable farming practices and protects local ecosystems. The production process preserves the natural integrity of the fibers, offering a luxurious, breathable fabric that's gentle on skin and free from harmful chemicals. Known for its smooth texture and temperature-regulating properties, our organic silk provides an eco-friendly, high-quality alternative for those seeking comfort and sustainability.
ORGANIC COTTON
Our cotton is 100% certified organic by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) to minimise environmental impact, foster a safer working environment, and promote biodiversity. According to Textile Exchange's 2021 Organic Cotton report, organic agricultural practices enhance soil carbon, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, lower the risk of groundwater pollution by prohibiting the use of chemicals, and save energy by avoiding the use and manufacturing of synthetic inputs. Well-managed organic systems retain more water compared to conventionally managed soil. Globally, 80% of organic cotton is cultivated in rain-fed conditions, preserving natural water sources rather than relying on irrigation. Light, airy, and durable, our organic cotton poplin stands as a collection staple for versatile dressing.
SILVER ION TREATMENT
At Yumi Silk, we provide the option to have our 100% certified organic silk treated with an SGS-certified Antibacterial Silver ion treatment. Silver ions have well-documented antimicrobial effects, including preventing the growth of bacteria, fungi, and viruses. When silver is infused into mulberry silk, it inhibits the growth of harmful microorganisms on the fabric. Silver ions continue to work for up to 18 months, which helps extend the life of the product. For instance, silver-treated fabrics can resist bacterial growth and odours for an extended period, meaning fewer washes are required and products stay fresher for longer. This can reduce water and energy consumption.

4. MANUFACTURING
We consciously manufacture our product in China and are proud partners. We are committed to working together with our factories to enrich the lives of those who work on our garments and support their local communities. Ensuring all workers receive a fair living wage, reasonable working conditions, and adequate hours is of utmost importance to us. This helps cover essential needs such as food, water, accommodation, education, medical care, clothing, transport, and other essential needs.

5. MODERN SLAVERY STATEMENT
We are committed to upholding good labour standards and protecting the human rights of all individuals employed as a result of Yumi Silk's business. We ensure all employees receive fair wages, proper compensation, and work under pre-approved conditions. We do not condone Modern Slavery in any form, including the use of violence, deceit, threat, or coercion to recruit workers into forced or bonded labour, descent-based labour, child labour or any behaviour that undermines the freedoms or rights of a human being.

6. BIODEGRADABLE AND RECYCLED PACKAGING
In place of conventional plastic, all product arrives at our warehouse packaged in BPAT materials made from renewable resources like sugar cane and cornstarch, designed to be both biodegradable and home-compostable. We use recycled paper for our postcards and invoices, and our orders are packed in compostable cornstarch mailer satchels.

7. FUTURE
Is it our mission to offset all future carbon usage and work towards zero waste in our manufacturing process, refining all design elements to be recycled and biodegradable. We will continue to learn and evolve our practices for this new world with accountability and openness. Please get in contact if you have any suggestions for us to better our product, process, or service. We welcome your feedback.
